I love the contrasting darker color tones against the white of the bird. Certainly a unique pose to capture. The vignette helps bring the eye into the main subject. Did you struggle with how to crop it? I ask because I’m trying to visualize it with a different crop and it just doesn’t seem to work any other way, other than how you present it.

Thanks Doug. On this one I didn’t want anything else to draw attention that is why I darken it to draw more to the crane. Yes, I did struggle on the crop. The back leg and eye are on the rule of thirds plain. I just didn’t like any other I tried. My only concern would be I might have too much open on the right side. I have several more I will be posting. I was actually testing the D4 and D800. Although the D800 did good I kept defaulting back to the D4. I am getting better with the D800 but gosh I love the D4.

I think you’re actually okay on the right side. I was playing with reducing the foreground or the area to the left, but it didn’t seem to really add anything to the photo, so I thought just to leave it alone, as you did.

I don’t think the D800 will beat out the D4 in anything but file size. Unless you are shooting to print large, I don’t see the benefit. If the D800 was a crop camera I would, but not with it being full frame like the D4. I’ve heard all the arguments about being able to crop further into a photo with the D800, so in effect it’s similar to having a cropped frame, but I’m not sold on that idea. I’m Canon, so I don’t have any preference based on use.
